The Queen

The Queen

Please consider the red line as the edge of the board, so we have more exercises for you.

1a From the centre a queen manages to reach 27 fields. Here we have only half the board and 2 friends who limit us a little on the line. Nevertheless you can see how strong a queen is!
1b Two opposing pieces will be taken and the own bishop "shortens" the file by one square.

2a On the file it is the own rook and the opponent's bishop and diagonally the own pawn disturbs.
2b Two opponents and one's own bishop limit the queen's range.

3a Here it is two white stones and one's own king that stand in the way.
3b Two stones of each color block the queen's path.

4ab Watch out! Move only to the squares that have not been touched. There are only 2(a) or 3(b) left.

5a 4 possibilities, one of them with the hit.
5b 5 possibilities, one of them with the hit.

6ab You surely already have some practice and find the 5 squares without danger.

7-8-9 Attack on the King is called "check " or "giving check". More precisely it will be explained to you later in the book. This is about finding all such moves.

10 The queen can quickly cross the whole board!

11-12 For the double attack (fork) the queen is also suitable very well!

13 Even though the black lady seems to have everything under control, especially the open file, the white queen finds a loophole.

14 Remember the best way to attack different pieces without getting hit yourself.

15-18 Here you should have no more questions now.

19-20 These tasks are a little more difficult. In 19 you get there pretty fast.

In 20 you have to move back and forth on one of the ranks, then you manage to capture one piece each time you move.

When "painting by numbers" a picture of a queen should be created.
