The Rook

The Rook

Please consider the red line as the edge of the board, so we have more exercises for you.

The rook moves horizontally (on the ranks, i.e. to the left and to the right) and vertically (on the files, up and down).

1a Here you go left, right and down to the black pawn that you can take.
1b To the left the rook hits the black bishop, up it goes only to your own king, right and down - no obstacles.

2a Quite cramped, to the left until the queen who is taken, to the top is the hold under his own king. It doesn't go right and down.
2b Two black stones are hit, there is then accordingly the end of the journey, upwards it goes to the edge, to the left there are no moves.

3a The rook and the knight are taken, to the left the own bishop does not let us through.
3b The pawn on the left is hit, vertically it goes only up to your own pieces.

4a Pay attention not to be hit! So there are no unattacked squares on the file, and you may not capture the opponent's rook because the king is guarding it. On the row, the bishop takes one square away from us.
4b Everything except the two squares at the bottom of the file is under the control of the opponent.

5a Only the opponent's rook may be taken on the rank, which otherwise guards all squares; on the file it only goes up, since the bishop is protected by the king.
5b Nothing goes here for the white rook except to hit the opponent's rook, which otherwise allows no moves on the file (beats us) and on the rank (pins us).

6ab Here black causes us hardly any problems.

7a The white rook should be beaten and on the line the white king takes 3 squares away
7b The tower may only move on the file and there the opponents also take 2 squares away from it.

8a Only 2 possible moves on the rank
8b Only 2 possible moves on the file

9a Under Bishop's protection the rook finds a square on the rank, otherwise there are 3 on the file.
9b No moves possible, even if you hit your opponent, you will be hit.
10 Only the bishop can be taken.

11-12 no longer a problem for the experienced rook player

13-18 no longer a problem for the experienced rook player

19-20 These exercises are a bit more difficult. The rule here is: to move back and forth on one of the lines once, then you manage to capture one piece each time you move.
